Legionella
Genome Project
This project to
obtain the complete sequence of the Legionella
pneumophila genome and to determine the
function of a significant portion of the
organism's genes is one of the ongoing
collaborations of the Columbia
Genome Center, the Department of Microbiology
and the Department of Chemical Engineering. Some
other Genome Center activities and projects may
be found at the above link. The work is being
conducted by a team of investigators in several
laboratories at Columbia
Universitys medical and main campuses
and at NIH.
Funding for this work was provided by NIH
grant 1 R01 AI 44371-01 awarded to Dr. Russo,
Research Scientist and Associate Head of the DNA
Sequencing and Chemical Biology Laboratory, by a
Packard award to Dr. Ju, the Associate Professor
of Chemical Engineering and Head of the DNA
Sequencing and Chemical Biology Laboratory, and
by the Columbia Genome Center.
Current Stage of Work
To date (last
update: September 20, 2004), 3,397,754 bp of the
genome exists as a single sequence and is
available through this Web site and from GenBank
(accession AE017354).
Using this web site, you can download the full
genome sequence and the predicted gene set and
BLAST your sequence against our Legionella
database, obtain graphic views of GLIMMER and
BLAST data from segments of the genome, and
obtain tables with additional curated annotation
data.
